This has been such a fun and challenging contest to be a part of. The hardest part about the nursery design challenge was finding time to work on the room. I go to school full time, work part time, and have a very needy 18 moth old, so finding time wasn't always the easiest thing, but we made it work. As I said, I am a student and so is my husband. My goal in designing this nursery was to make it a budget friendly nursery that can revamp a room, even on a student’s budget.

When my husband and I got married, we lived in his parent’s one bedroom basement for the first year and a half of our marriage. When our little boy arrived, we had no room to make into his nursery. I always felt bad that I couldn't give him a room of his own, especially when I saw other mothers decorating their little baby’s nursery and getting it ready for their baby’s arrival. I never got to do that with this little one.

We moved into our own two bedroom place in January and I knew that I could then give my little boy the nursery room that he deserved.  When I saw the ad to enter the contest, I did it not even think that I would be a finalist. I was beyond thrilled when I found out that I was chosen to bring my dream nursery design board to life. I probably drove my husband crazy because I would say to him can you believe I am a finalist?! He would proceed to roll his eyes and say “YES!” for the thousandth time, haha! So began the fun three months of working on the nursery. Because we are renting our place, we weren’t allowed to paint the walls so that made it a challenge. Rather than painting, I decided to play to the strengths of the color and coordinate secondary colors around it. We just had to find colors that would compliment the wall color. I decided to go with the colors white, Gold, Blue, and tan. When choosing these colors, I had in my mind that my main purpose was to give the room a light and peaceful feel.

One of the greatest parts about the challenge was the great sponsors who provided us with different items for our rooms. I definitely would not have been able to do this contest with out them. Thank you so much to Oilo, Munchkin, Urban Walls, Minted, Wayfair and all the other great companies for sponsoring this event. It was hard to choose what I wanted from these shops because everything they had was so cute! Check them out if you haven’t already!

This challenge really helped me to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to designing and has given me the confidence that I need. I have had several people ask me to help them design their bedrooms since this challenge. It has been a fun and rewarding journey. I have put in a lot of time and hard work into this room so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
