When I first started designing the space I knew I wanted the traditional blush pinks and white for Holland's (my second baby girl) nursery, but I also wanted a touch of something less traditional for girl's rooms. That's how I ended up incorporating the navy blue walls and copper accents. Shades of blue are huge in home decor right now and I was also inspired by our just-launched company, The Doll Kind, to use the navy and pink combo (one of our doll designs feature those shades). The copper proved to be a little tough to find, but thanks to the modern decor selection from Joss & Main, I was able to find two of my favorite pieces - the copper twig mirror I placed above the changing table and the beautiful copper curtain rod.

Some of the very first items I placed in the nursery set the tone/theme for the room. The Oilo bedding, pink chandelier, and the navy floral pillow cover came together to create the 'midnight garden' theme. Then I found the sweetest butterfly art print by Minted and it was set! All of the other details were cake once I had the color scheme, and floral and butterfly elements incorporated. A slight change from my design board, but overall the same style and color.

There are a few DIYs in the nursery. My favorite, the white dresser, was built by my amazing husband and it's a true labor of love! Since it was tough to find copper pictures frames, I coated gold frames with copper spray paint. I'm an artist and had good intentions of doing a painting to hang above the baby's crib, but Instead decided to use these lovely decals from Urban Walls and placed them on a canvas my husband built. Placing the decals was a tedious task, but I'm beyond happy with the end result.

I LOVE the rug in the nursery, but had trouble finding it as it was sold out on several websites for weeks. I eventually lucked up and found it at Rugs Direct. The two hardest working pieces in the nursery are the blanket ladder (I use it to hold everything from swaddles to changing pads) and the diaper pail by Ubbi. I'm so glad there is a sleek and modern design for diaper pails these days!

There are so many other special items in the nursery. Many are from handmade Etsy shops. I'm a former maker myself so it's very important to me to buy handmade and local. One of my favorite handmade pieces is the pouf by S & H Create. I worked with the shop owner, Sara, to find the perfect fabric to coordinate with the bedding. I also adore Holland's name in script hanging above the art prints.

I had so much fun designing this nursery and I am truly honored to be a part of Oilo's design challenge! Little miss Holland even decided to make her debut right on time for nursery photos. We did her newborn photo session simultaneously. I love spending time in this space with her! Late night feedings are more peaceful and I enjoy soaking up the early morning light while I rock her in the glider.
