Pregnancy Journaling

From one pregnancy to the next, I can promise you the best thing I carried over was not my maternity wardrobe (yuck!), but rather my pregnancy journals.

When you’re in the throes of pregnancy, you feel certain that you will never forget what it felt like.  But, alas, I am almost certain of a magic fairy that comes and waves her wand not long after delivering that makes you forget about all of the gory details of being pregnant.  The truth is, you do forget.  And, I am constantly grateful when I have my pregnancy journals to look back at.

It really is comforting to have a clearer recollection of how I felt, when I felt it, and when I hit certain milestones in my past pregnancies.  Of course I faithfully read all of the weekly trackers to update myself on exactly what is happening to my body… but I’m well aware that these are generic estimates. It’s so much more useful to recall what my pregnant body went through… exactly when my nausea stopped, or when I actually broke out the maternity gear for the first

New moms everywhere are using pregnancy journals as a way to record and reflect regularly on the nine months before baby arrives.  This can be done in several ways, with several options to choose from depending on your personality, your own writing style, and your memory keeping preferences.

I record pregnancy notes weekly in a blank journal.  This is definitely an easy approach that has allowed me the opportunity to write more or less depending on the week.  I have enjoyed taking a little time to reflect, and to really listen to my body as I embrace the tiny details of each monumental week.  For those of you that are more technologically minded…some moms are taking their pregnancy to the online domain of blogging , making regular online entries-supported by digital photo to be kept electronically or printed as a book. There are also many published pregnancy journals on the market that provide an organized format for detailing your pregnancy happenings.  Some popular options:

:: The Belly Book: A Nine-Month Journal for You and Your Growing Belly

:: The Pregnancy Journal: A Day-to-Day Guide to a and Happy Pregnancy

:: From Pea to Pumpkin: A Pregnancy Journal

While I’d wager to bet your maternity wardrobe will go out of style from baby to baby, I’m sure that whatever approach is taken to remember your pregnancy, a journal is something you will cling to with each new pregnancy adventure!
